South Korea Student Visa and Study Details for International Students


1. General Information

Intakes:

  • March Intake: Apply 3 to 5 months before classes begin (around October to November).

  • September Intake: Apply 3 to 5 months before classes begin (around April to May).

Application Rounds:

  • 1st Round Admission: Main round with the most available spots.

  • 2nd & 3rd Round Admission: Available if seats remain, but you may need to rush.

  • Round Deadlines: Each round lasts 10 to 15 days, and universities may extend deadlines based on seat availability.

2. Eligibility Criteria

For Bachelor’s Programs

  • Requirements: HSC, Diploma, Madrasa, or equivalent

  • English Proficiency:

    • IELTS: Minimum 5.5 (Required)

    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum 70 (Not eligible for scholarships)

    • Note: MOI (Medium of Instruction) is not accepted for Bachelor’s programs. South Korea does not accept MOI as proof of English proficiency.

  • Visa Type:

    • D-2 Student Visa

    • EPA (Language Program): Only for Bachelor’s students (D-4 Visa)

For Master’s Programs

  • Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree (4-year undergrad program/equivalent)

  • English Proficiency:

    • IELTS: Minimum 5.5 (Required)

    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum 80 (Not eligible for scholarships)

    • Note: MOI is not accepted in South Korea. You must have IELTS or TOEFL scores.

  • Visa Type:

    • E-Visa preferred for higher visa success rates

3. Application Process & Deadlines

Application Fees:

  • Bachelor’s Programs: 5,000 to 8,000 BDT (Depending on the university)

  • Master’s Programs: 6,000 to 12,000 BDT (Depending on the university and E-Visa application)

Documents Required:

  • All Academic Documents: Must be attested or apostilled, not notarized. (Kompass will assist)

  • Medical Certificate: Required for visa approval

  • Financial Documents:

    • Minimum 20 Lakhs BDT in FDR, Savings Account, or Current Account

    • FDR: 1-month maturity

    • Savings Account: 3-month maturity

    • Current Account: 3-month maturity

  • Tax Return Certificate: Minimum 8,000 BDT (No zero tax return accepted)

  • Proof of Income: Minimum 40,000 BDT per month (Sponsor)

  • Family Certificate: From City Corporation or Union Parishod

4. Visa Information

  • E-Visa: Available for Master’s students only; preferred for higher visa success rates

  • D-2 Visa: Available for Bachelor’s students only

  • EPA (Language Program) – D-4 Visa: Only available for Bachelor’s students

5. English Proficiency Requirements

  • IELTS Minimum: 5.5 for both Bachelor’s and Master’s programs

  • TOEFL:

    • Home-based tests are not accepted

    • Does not qualify for scholarships, but can meet general entry requirements

6. Scholarships

  • IELTS-Based Scholarships:

    • Scholarships are based on IELTS score, not CGPA

    • Range: 20% to 100%, depending on your IELTS score and the university

  • TOEFL: Not accepted for scholarships

7. Tuition Fees

  • Bachelor’s Programs: Lower tuition compared to Master’s programs

  • Master’s Programs:

    • Tuition ranges 4.5 Lakhs to 5 Lakhs BDT per semester

    • Pre-Visa Payment: One semester’s tuition must be paid before visa issuance

    • Package Program: If selected, payment can be made after visa approval (commitment required)

8. Living Costs

  • Average Living Costs: 50,000 to 60,000 BDT per month

Payment Terms:

  • With IELTS: Total fee due after visa approval

  • Financial Requirements:

    • Bank Solvency: 20–25 Lacs BDT

    • Tax Return Certificate: Minimum 8,000 BDT

    • Proof of Income: Minimum 40,000 BDT/month (Sponsor)

    • Self-Sponsorship allowed

  • Without IELTS: Package program fees are higher. Contact a Kompass counselor

10. Gap in Education

  • Gaps Over 2 Years: Must provide an explanation

  • Gap Limit: Should not exceed 5–6 years

  • For Working Professionals: Provide an employment letter

  • For Business Owners: Provide a trade license

11. Additional Notes

  • Apply 3–5 months before the intake

  • Seat availability may be limited for 2nd & 3rd rounds

  • MOI is not accepted in South Korea

  • TOEFL Home-based tests are not accepted
